Art and Albums
The Jamaican popular music industry accounts for over 10% of the country’s gross national product (GNP), which makes it important to the economy. 

Since the 1950s this prolific industry has produced albums on a range of popular music genres, including Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Roots, Dub and Dancehall. 

During this period the covers of these albums reflect an evolving mood of the times, tied to the complex social contexts of a newly independent country, striving to find its own identity while redefining its relationship with the world, particularly with Africa. 

Today graphic designers and artists continue that legacy of producing album covers that reflect the distinctive musical styles, the musicians and the times.   Here is a collection of albums by some of Jamaica’s better known musicians.
