Passing the time in Manchester
Manchester is one of the Jamaica’s southern parishes. Its main town, Mandeville is possibly the most popular location for Jamaicans returning home after living several years in Europe and North America. This is because of its temperate climate, lush green vegetation and relative prosperity.
Although not one of the tourist centers, its central location relative to the tourist hot spots makes it an attractive alternative place to stay and pass the time.
One of the smaller places to stay that caught my fancy is June Plum Bed and Breakfast. It has an old style, homey feel to it and is reasonably priced. Christopher, the proprietor has the reputation of being an excellent host.
If you also want to do the less traditional touristy stuff and simply enjoy what Manchester has to offer, here are a few suggestions.
Mandeville is not a big shopping location, but near the bustling town center are the Manchester Shopping Center and Mega Mart both popular among locals. A variety of restaurants are available, from well-known American food chains to local restaurants with Jamaican and international cuisines.
